First order of business: Happy birthday Mama Boyf! The picture below was taken a couple weeks ago at her home in Las Vegas, when we were celebrating the boyf's birthday.
...But strike it, flip it and reverse it, and you've got yourself the perfect birthday picture of the birthday girl herself, reading a birthday greeting from the boyf (and girlf). I am but a lowly blogger and cannot work the miracle it would take to teleport us to Las Vegas to wish her a happy birthday in person, so a recycled picture will have to do. Mama Boyf, I hope you are having a good one!
As for tonight's dinner, it is with some regret that I post this next shot:
Brooklyn's own Emily (on the right) is leaving our beloved borough for greener pastures this week. No proper send-off would be complete without a blogworthy meal, so we (Vani, Sarah & I) dined with her at Organic Heights, a vegan cafe in north Park Slope.
The sandwiches seemed to be the star of this joint's menu, but in an uncharacteristic move for me, I chose a create-your-own salad with tomatoes, carrots and avocado in their agave-dijon dressing. It was swampy as all get-out in NYC today, and I just couldn't entertain the idea of anything but a salad. But was it good, you ask?
Well, it was a salad. I would have to order something else off their menu in order to be "impressed." They sure make that hard, though, considering they were out of everything I asked for before resorting to creating my own salad! Harumph.
In all fairness, my companions seemed to enjoy their sandwiches, though, so it may be worth a return trip.
For dessert, I decided to share the (non)fruits of this weekend's baking labor: vegan Cookie-Topped Brownies.
I saw Nicole's recipe a while back, and it just so happened that the stars aligned this weekend such that the ingredients were in the house and I had the urge to bake.
Ok, I'm back. Had a little moment with the dessert pictures there.
Best wishes to Emily and her continuing Eatventures! May she find good food upstate, though I defy her to find a group of bloggers as ballin' as us Brooklynites. Hope she finds her way back to us for a visit sooner rather than later!

Sounds like a great going away dinner! I don't understand how restaurants can just run out of food - it's their business to provide food!! That would drive me crazy ;)
