Spiked Oatmeal

I found this abandoned sample of “Pumpkin, Nuts and 10 Years Port” jam at work the other day and wanted to put it to good use this weekend. I also really wanted a hearty serving of Oats in a Jar.

033

But since this was the only jar about to be emptied, I had what is surely the (blog) world’s tiniest Oats in a Jar instead.

034

How tiny was it? Well, here are my not-so-tiny fingers for scale:

036

Boy howdy was I stuffed after that! Now I know how a fashion model feels.

I kid. Here’s the rest of breakfast:

030

You didn’t really think I’d let a post go by without mentioning something about cereal, did you? (But seriously, I think I’m finally done with this theme.)

In honor of National Peanut Butter Day (this past Sunday), I went back to basics by making myself a nice bowl of oats with the new Special K honey granola, peanut butter and aforementioned Port jam for toppings.

031

Port jam, my friends, is how we legitimize drinking before noon.

Again, I kid. The jam did make my oats a lot drunker better though!

As for the granola, I decided I wouldn’t buy it for myself. I was happy to try the free sample, thanks to Foodbuzz, but the ingredient list is a bit of a turn-off.

How about a breakfast highlight with only one ingredient?

027

The super-expensive, organic Asian pear I bought on impulse this weekend. I’d always thought I didn’t care for pears, but after my sister recently shared her Harry & David pears with me, I thought I owed them a second chance (unlike Special K).

029

It wasn’t quite like the amazing taste of Harry & David’s pears I had, but it was pretty darn good anyway. Perhaps the third time’s the charm, as they say.

Have you ever given a food a second chance and found that you liked it?

or

Did you celebrate National Peanut Butter Day?

Such a cute OIAJ! I hated spinach as a kid but when I got older I realized I only like it raw, and I'd only ever tried it cooked. And like many food bloggers, I like to think I celebrate PB every day :)

I did NOT celebrate National Peanut Butter day, and I can't believe I missed it! Of course, I'm sure (100%) that I ate peanut butter on January 24th, but I would have done something cool had I known it was a special PB day!

I love your tiny oats in a jar. That's classic. It's like a nice, perfect little bite. I love it.

I like pears a lot. It's one of those foods that I don't eat often, therefore I tend to forget how much I enjoy them (sort of like what you said, kind of?). Another food like that is quinoa. I just bought some and I'm hooked. It's been a really long time since I've had it.

I always thought I didn't like blueberries (but I buy them occasionally because they are healthy) but the pint I've been eating this week has been delicious.

D'oh, did not celebrate peanut day, but I'll be all over almond day :-) Love pears, put one in my green smoothie this morning.

Haha, sooo adorable! Must be the blog world's cutest OIAJ ever! I wonder why it was abandoned though?

On my recent post, I slammed imitation meat. But a lot of bloggers left me comments saying that some aren't that bad. I'll have to give that a second chance...any rec?

Skylar wants your world’s tiniest Oats in a Jar to feed barbie with. Barbie's hungry! LOL

Port jam. Nice.

Drinking before noon...yeah, bourbon vanilla from TJs in your oats. It's perfect :)

2nd chance foods. Well, i go thru spurts where i dont eat something for a couple years and when i reintroduce it, it's like OMG I cant believe i forgot about you, i.e. i know this is crazy, cauliflower from 2005-08 was absent. the sacrilege.

Ha, now that is dedication to fit those oats in that tiny jar! :)

I've definitely given foods a second chance and it's a good thing! Otherwise I wouldn't like yogurt, bananas, spinach, olives, tomatoes, peppers, okra, oatmeal....basically anything in the blog world! Except peanut butter. I've always loved that ;-)

That pear looks so tasty. There's absolutely nothing like a perfectly ripe pear.

Adorable little jar of oatmeal!
