It’s completely past my bedtime and I have no business blogging right now, and indeed, I’ve been skipping it on Tuesday and Thursday nights for several weeks now, in case you haven’t noticed. Last week, I alluded to the fact that there was “something else” keeping me busy a couple nights a week, but considering how relevant it is to my blog’s content, I realize there’s no reason not to share it!
Sun In Bloom is Brooklyn’s newest vegan, living foods cafe. It opened January 2nd, and I got in touch with Aimee, the owner, shortly thereafter. I wanted to play in her restaurant, and I had a feeling she might be just the type of open soul that would let me crash her party just a bit.
Lucky for me, I was right, and I’ve been lending a hand in varying capacities for a few weeks now. I’m learning a ton about how a restaurant is run and sampling some amazing eats in the meantime.
I had the Western Burrito for dinner tonight, and it’s totally obvious why this is the best selling dish. The “meat” is a raw sunflower seed-based nut pate that is spiced to taste eerily similar to the real thing (omnivores take note!). It’s rolled alongside avocado, sprouts, cabbage and a fresh salsa that’s to-die-for. My burrito was wrapped in collards, but an Ezekiel wrap is also an option, as is a straight-up salad containing all of the above.
In return for allowing me to frolic in the restaurant, I’m helping Aimee launch the social media aspect of her marketing. Being a food blogger, I feel like it’s the least I can do! We are working on getting a number of things up and running right now, so follow Sun In Bloom on Twitter (@suninbloom) to keep up on all the latest news (and occasional food porn)!
In the meantime, I’ll have fun helping Aimee develop some raw dessert recipes for the ever-growing menu, and I look forward to sharing that with you as well. This really is the stuff that “floats my proverbial boat,” as mentioned in my bio over there on the right!
Speaking of desserts…
Did I mention that Sun In Bloom is also a vegan bakery? It’s kind of a big deal.
So that’s my life update for February 23rd! As for February 24th, that’s National Tortilla Chip Day, don’t forget! Have you made your Nacho Pie yet? If not, you might want to just keep reading down below…
For now, get ready to watch Sun In Bloom blossom!
