Wow, I have good looking friends! Katherine and Sebastian joined me for lunch at Sun In Bloom today. A fitting choice of venue, considering the sun really did bloom in NYC this weekend! I’m not a big fan of intense heat, but the 40-degree mornings we had this past week were a little on the ridiculous side.
The Bella Divine salad is my favorite thing on the menu, but considering you really can’t go wrong with any of the offerings, I decided to branch out and have the Rockin’ Veggie salad today.
Piled on top of mixed greens are the “roasted” veggies (marinated and dehydrated carrot/pepper/zucchini slices), sprouts and the live zucchini-based hummus. Zingy, fresh and cool, this hit just the right spot today.
Katherine and Sebastian enjoyed their Bella Divine and Western Burrito, respectively, after which we strolled back from Park Slope to Brooklyn Heights. Major thanks to them for making the hike from their hood in Manhattan—they are so good to me. :)
Speaking of Sun In Bloom, I’d say an update is in order. Though my time in their kitchen was a phenomenal learning experience for me, I think I’m going to keep any culinary experimentation to my own kitchen from now on—it’s a hobby, after all, and it’s staying that way. I enjoy creating raw desserts (among other dishes), but I enjoy that like I enjoy writing: on my own time and on my own turf. The only way I could realize that was to go try it, though, so the past few months have been great on that front.
From now on, I’ll be devoting any Sun In Bloom time towards developing their blog (new post this week, by the way!). The restaurant is a great space and it’s wonderful to sit and absorb all that’s going on there.
I guess this is why I will always return to my own blog, for better or for worse—it’s where my food and my words meet and make beautiful babies! For me, it doesn’t get much better than that. So, bloggers, I’m curious: what does your blog do for you?

Your pictures from Sun in Bloom always make my mouth water- everything looks so delicious!! My blog inspires me to try new things, keeps me accountable for eating enough, and is usually just fun to work on! Hope you have a great Monday :)
Your blog let's me catch up on how one of my favorite nyc blog friends is doing. And often you make me laugh so hard diet coke comes out my nose!
Aw you make me blush :) It was our pleasure to make the trip out to Brooklyn to see you and enjoy tasty treats too!
My blog encourages me to try new things and to meet new, fun people.
Diana! I love the pic of K and her man and also your new apt lease, very cool! And this revelation that you're going to be doing less cheffing and more writing (their blog) but that you're gonna be writing on your own blog, too, still. Good. I have really missed your posts (no guilt please!!) the past few mos and sorta wondered if you were gonna stick w/ blogging or not. Glad that you are!!
My own blog. Why blog. I have posted extensively on this and basically i blog for the sense of community. I am frankly sick of sharing recipes, I am bored by it. But i know my readership wants them and since it's a food blog, i cant get around it. But i enjoy blogging about my life's events MUCH more than food. i.e. fitness competition, modeling agency, skylar, etc. But the people ive met like YOU are what keep me sucked in :)
Drooling over the Sun in Bloom food pics. I rarely go to Brooklyn but this might just be worth the trip :)
Blogging, for me, has really helped me overcome and/or face a lot of personal issues such as depression and my disordered eating. It's a really empowering outlet for me, and it's really helped me change the way I think about myself.
I'm glad you haven't given up on your blog. Even with your less-than-regular posting (and I'm not knocking you for that), I'm glad to see you coming back to S&C. Your blog is one of the first ones I read religiously. When I first came across it, I back-read all your entries in one night! Anyway, I can't wait to see your future posts and to see what your own culinary experiences will be like.
My own blog...initially I used to just post my bentos on Facebook but the limit of 60 photos per album was really getting to me. Then I started reading more blogs and decided to start my own and began posting my bentos there. It just began as a collecting of my own food photos but now I include occasional recipes, baking adventures, resto reviews, etc. I don't have many followers so I kind of consider it mu own online journal.
Great pictures, I'd love to go to Sun in Bloom. Kitchen experimenting is more fun when there's less pressure and more time to play, especially if it's a hobby. Your dessert creations are amazing.
My blog provides a place to ramble on about my healthy eating obsession and one of my favorite hobbies - experimenting in the kitchen. :-) It's a great way to journal my transition into veganism and connect with others.
I started my blog during a time when I was eating like crap because I had just moved in with my boyfriend and we were lazy about cooking. Now I cook almost every night and eat very healthy foods. My blog is what makes me keep doing that!
Wish I'd been there!
