Housewarming Post

Hey there, stranger! It’s been a while since I paid a visit to this here blog, but I’ve moved, unpacked, decorated and nested to the point of exhaustion. In fact, I only just now got done really scrubbing the place. Unfortunately for me, the last tenant here was a dude, and a foul, FOUL dude at that. I won’t go into details, but even with my granny eyesight I could see the funk that had built up on the toilet. Now that I’ve cleaned, any funk ‘round here will be my own funk, at least.

I feel like I should maintain at least some degree of privacy, but I figure a couple snapshots of the place couldn’t hurt. Here’s where I catch my Zs:

002

Why yes, I did install that pull shade and those curtains myself, thank you for asking.

And this is where the magic happens:

003

Or rather, where I trust some magic will happen sometime in the not-too-distant future. At this point, feeding myself…anything…trumps creative concoctions. I’m getting there, though!

My new toy will help:

004

I decided that I mean business where blending is concerned, so I bought myself an itty bitty housewarming gift: a Blendtec. And yeah, that’s the Tribest blender base sitting next to it on the left. I said I mean bizniss!

So while I haven’t been doing much in the way of cooking (thanks to Trader Joe and his guh-lor-i-yuss freezer aisle), I have gotten to tinker with the blender a little, and what with the warmer weather these days, I’ve been enjoying a little light frozen dessert each night.

Maple Slushie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup non-dairy milk (I used So Delicious coconut milk beverage)
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • generous shake of cinnamon
  • 3 cups ice cubes

Blend into slushy goodness! I recommend letting the ice sit out on the counter for 5 minutes or so prior to blending.

006

Tip: It’s extra good topped with the maple cream sandwich cookies from Trader Joe’s (pictured). Crush them into the slushie with your spoon and you’ve got some fancy cookies and milk, summer style.

Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for the moment—I’m still recovering from all the work that went into the move and subsequent obsessive nesting. I had a lovely massage after work tonight, which was just what I needed. Hope you got to do something more fun than moving for Memorial Day weekend!

Your kitchen is twice the size of mine, and I live in a house.
