Obsession: Personal Blender

I have not abandoned my blog! I’ve been on vacation in California all week, but am back in the Big Manzana now and it’s high time I dusted off ye olde internet.

I alluded to an appliance review quite a while ago, and the time has finally come for me to reveal said appliance. It has gotten quite a workout since I first hinted at its existence!

Indeed, CSN was kind enough to send me my very own Tribest Personal Blender, and it’s safe to say that I’m obsessed with the thing.

The reason I love the personal-style blender is because I’m so much more likely to whip up a shake or a spread when it doesn’t entail hauling out the big heavy Oster (which I also love, don’t get me wrong)…and then having to hand-wash it. Super awkward.

Having few parts, the Tribest is really easy to clean, and for that matter, most often you simply drink your shake straight from the blending container or store what you’ve made by replacing the blade attachment with a lid.

Maybe you noticed my sneakiness, but I actually did post a shake recipe already: the Black & White Milkshake—it was part of my Stevia Week recipes.

Rather than give you more shake ideas, I thought I’d share an impromptu dressing recipe. This blended up so quick, it’s hard to imagine not wanting to use fresh dressings all the time!

This concoction was improvised, so measurements are approximate. Adjust to taste.

Sesame Dressing (Vegan)

Ingredients:

  • ~1/2 cup sesame seeds
  • ~1/4 water
  • 1-2 tsp Bragg’s Liquid Aminos (or soy sauce)
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • sprinkle of garlic powder
  • 3 drops liquid stevia

Directions: Blend until smooth!

I poured some dressing into a squeeze bottle for easy dressing application and stored the rest by screwing on one of the lids that came with the blender kit.

The flavor came out rather similar to Sun In Bloom’s Bella Divine salad, which I’ve recreated on other occasions at home. Hint: also check out Gena’s rendition of this dressing for a chance to win a free meal at Sun In Bloom!

Aside from massaging kale, however, this dressing has infinite other uses. Take this mountain, for example:

The above pile of goodness had several layers:

  1. Mixed greens,
  2. Quinoa with Sun In Bloom sauerkraut, dulse and Sesame Dressing stirred in, and
  3. A big heap of veggies roasted in coconut oil.

Veg-tastic.

The same combination of dressing ingredients could also be made into a nice tahini-ish spread if blended with less water. I needed it thinned out, though, what for pouring it on everything in sight.

So this is but the first of several more quick blender ideas; I’ll share some more later this week. Thanks again to CSN for hooking me up!

Do you have a personal blender? Does it get more use than a traditional one? Mine certainly does!

I don't have a personal blender but I am often put off from getting out my traditional blender because of the extra washing up involved. How lazy of me! Maybe having a personal blender that's smaller and easier to clean would make a difference.

I have a Magic Bullet, and while Tribest it is NOT, it's totally a lifesaver when I travel to make morning smoothies, and it blends up a dressing in a jiffy too.

Such an awesome appliance! I would love to have one, but sadly the kitchen appliance fairies have not visited me recently. For now, I have to get my arm workout heaving my blender and juicer up from the cabinets. Ah well, beats having to pay for the gym!

I don't have a real OR personal blender at my apartment! Just not enough room...so sad, I know!!

I would love one of these for traveling, but don't have one. :-( I use my Vita-Mix many times a day.

Hope you had a great time here in CA.

Ooh! Awesome recipe--I will definitely be giving that a try soon.
I actually started out my smoothie obsession with a personal blender. My mom got me a Magic Bullet for my 16th birthday...little did she know that she was creating a smoothie monster.

My life was entirely lacking of a blender, and it's something I've been thinking about for a long time. Your reviews of the Tribest pushed me over the edge (ha!) and I purchased one last week. And let me just say... you are soooo right. I completely share your love affair with this personal blender. So far I've only made smoothies, but I look forward to many more blends of salad dressings, sauces, etc. Mine also came with a grinder blade, so I can buy whole spices and grind my own. Totally <3 my Tribest! Thank you so much for writing about it.
