Healthy Obsession

This blog is in serious need of some action! I really would like to post more often, for my own benefit if no one else's. Like I said in my last post, I get most of my bloggie jollies from foodie blogs these days, as well as a smattering of fitness blogs. These topics happen to blend often, which is convenient for my reading purposes. What can I say? I'm a healthy lady, but it takes work to maintain that lifestyle, and it's nice to see how other folks out there manage to stay as faaaaaaabulous as me.
That said, perhaps a brief update is in order. And by brief, I mean:

Thanksgiving

Christmas

Lane took all the pictures.

New Year's

Totally a summer picture but...same difference.

In case you couldn't tell from the first picture, I spent Thanksgiving visiting the parents in Japan.

I returned from that trip armed with ::sheepish look:: about $80 worth of little bento lunch boxes. Everything's just cuter (ahem, kawaii) in Japan! Including their tupperware! So I now bring breakfast, lunch and snacks to work in cute little containers with dividers and squeezie bottles and Hello Kitties in them. The inspiration was one of my more favoriter blogs, Just Bento. Not sure why, but putting my food in little boxes to haul in and out of Manhattan every day gives me the warm fuzzies. I even photographed my first venture into bento-ing:

Top: Breakfast (dates/figs/prunes, olives, cucumbers & tomatoes, Greek yogurt w/ dill & lemon juice, Wasa cracker); Snack (apple); Bottom: Lunch (Macro Vegan sushi, Japanese sweet potatoes, homemade roasted brussels sprouts & cauliflower w/ walnuts, Reduced-Sodium Miso Cup soup

Considering the strange satisfaction I got from preparing all this stuff for the next day, maybe I should call it a "vent-o" instead. It's time-consuming, but I'm proud to say that I've kept up the habit ever since that Thanksgiving trip.

I've also been eating less and less meat these days (see photo above). I don't have the cojones to officially go vegan or even vegetarian - my tastes just tend more towards the foods without eyeballs. I have enjoyed wandering my favorite blogs and the internets in general for fun vegetarian recipes, and there have been a number of successes in my kitchen since, so I have plenty of posting material going forward - no excuses!

Another new fascination for me is the vegetarian/health/organic restaurant scene in NYC. Their menus look like a magical fairyland to me (I get most of my veggie porn from Erica on Sweet Eats), so I hope to be exploring more of those places in the near future. I had my first adventure on that front last night and luuuurrrrrvvvved it, so hopefully next time I'll consider my blog's feelings and bring my camera.

So that's what's going on in my world for the moment. Hope you'll be hearing from me again soon!
